Mesa Airlines has a very interesting history that spans over three decades. In fact, you can say they have seen more transformations than most companies in any industry. This does show that they are a resilient company and they are determined to overcome issues. Mesa Airlines is included in the Mesa Group, which contains many other smaller airlines. As of 2011, Mesa Group has restructured their operations after going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Now the company is a lot leaner but ready to grow business wise.

The Mesa Air Group, along with Mesa Airlines is trying to give assistance with hopeful pilots in obtaining their wings. The Mesa Pilot Development program is designed to provide a first class education including appropriate certifications.

Arizona State University has connected with Mesa to gain a positive result. Students will attend Arizona State and complete their four year Bachelor degree including requisite pilot certifications. At that time, the candidate will be given what is called a “preferential interview” with the Mesa Air Group for the position of First Officer which means, the copilot.

In the beginning Mesa Airlines had just one plane that ran flights between two different cities. The company grew, and by the end of the first ten years of being in business they had expanded to a fleet of 38 aircraft taking people to 63 US cities. They also began to trade on the stock exchange as they changed from a private company to a public one. Midwest Express Airlines and Mesa Airways agreed to a partnership of code sharing. Thanks to this agreement the airline could now charter flights out of Milwaukee, in Wisconsin. Then, in 1990, Mesa was able to gain a valuable code share partnership with United Airlines thus paving the way for the creation of United Express flying out of Denver Colorado.

Once in awhile you can be overwhelmed with the many different code shares and fusions between carriers, particularly the less significant airlines. This is how commerce is handled with an aviation firm.

In 2005, an airline connected to Mesa, America West Airlines, joined with US Airways. Mesa is somewhat coupled with the US Airways Group due to the code share contract. Mesa is still associated as US Airways Express as a result of the other code share arrangement. All things considered, Mesa will be able to stay connected to the region through the rewarding business of transport. The Mesa Airlines story is often similar to most airlines that have come from very humble origins. As you can imagine, it takes time to develop and expand an airline business. The airline industry is very reactive to business cycles, and the profit margins aren’t always too great. The people behind creating airlines already know of and accept these rules before they take up this sort of task. Mesa’s history reflects how any business has to respond to economic challenges and work with available industry resources to sustain profitability and expand.
