In a latest interview with Leisure Weekly, Carter Bays revealed extra details about the upcoming wedding within the Might 16 How I Met Your Mom finale. Here is the vital stuff, summed up properly by EW’s Tanner Stransky:
“You will not be meeting the mother on Might sixteen as a result of we don’t really see much of the wedding — viewers will really simply see a short, wedding ceremony-prep scene that reveals one half of who’s tying the knot. Then, cameras will quickly minimize to black for the summer. However that is the wedding where we’ll certainly meet the mother, as was promised in the season premiere. [...] This wedding, as you in all probability guessed, is ready a 12 months ahead of the show’s present, that means we’re at the very least one full season (but very doubtless extra) away from meeting the woman with the yellow umbrella. This ultimate scene, nevertheless, does set issues into motion for the series’ eventual endgame.”
Raise your hand should you’re surprised. Yeah, that is what I thought. (No fingers up, I hope, as a result of I can not see you anyway.) How I Met Your Mom followers are used to getting this sort of run-around, and seem to be split on whether or not they care or not that, six seasons in, we’re nonetheless not that a lot closer to meeting the titular character of the series. “It’s all concerning the non-Ted characters anyway,” some say, while others complain that the mystery has dragged on too long and their patience has worn out.
Usually, I tend to facet with the previous camp, who still find new joys within the gang’s adventures and have learned to forgive the present’s original conceit and title and simply let it do its factor on the best way to the eventual Mom reveal. Let it get there when it gets there.
But then episodes like last night’s “Good Cocktails” come along and remind me why I also perceive the annoyances of the latter camp, who would in all probability be extra likely to forgive Ted’s slow, meandering story and lead-up girlfriends, if only the show would cease rubbing their noses in the slowness and meandering-ness and lead-up-ness of it all. And last night time’s episode was much more frustrating than traditional, as a result of each storylines pretended to maneuver toward the resolution we all wanted (for Barney and Marshall to make up, and for Ted and Zoey to break up) solely to go back to square one by the top of the episode.
Barney and Marshall are still angry with each other over Marshall leaving GNB and joining Zoey’s cause to save the Arcadian. Thanks to at least one drink too many courtesy of Robin and Lily, we don’t even know in the event that they bear in mind their mutual revelation that this disagreement stems from daddy issues for both of them: Barney is delicate to abandonment right now, and Marshall wants to seek out which means and objective in a world without his rock of a father. I’m guessing they don’t keep in mind, as a result of then the combat can be over by now. I am not averse to more hilarious revenge pranks between these guys. (Barney’s assistant with the gross-out images was great, however Marshall’s “your crabs have super-herpes” was better.) But we all know where this is headed (Hug-It-Out City), so to see their battle revert again to the start was annoying. Lily is aware of what we’re talking about. If only I might had some absinthe helpful to take the sting off. For the file, “We’re a dream a baby’s having” is one of my favourite HIMYM traces to date.
In fact, Barney and Marshall’s non-decision annoyed me so much because that is what we have come to anticipate from Ted this season, as he grows extra hooked up and invested in Zoey, whom I never liked from the beginning and, realizing full-properly she would not develop into the mom, by no means bothered to take a position in. Barney is correct, Zoey is a “whiny, self-righteous chick with a megaphone.” Even her story about growing up in the Arcadian did little to humanize her character or trigger — partially as a result of that story wasn’t unhappy or significant enough to be a secret within the first place, and partly as a result of Zoey has been so whiny and self-righteous all through the season that I frankly just don’t care about her anymore. She’s a distraction from each reasons I love this present: The characters I adore and the thriller I want (ultimately) solved. Ted’s reverse response to her story — telling Zoey that he loves her — was thus doubly discouraging (on the verge of infuriating) as a result of it means Zoey will stick round longer, retaining us from storylines we would grow to be invested in, and maintaining Ted from shifting toward his eventual goal.
I’m not annoyed that we won’t meet the mother within the How I Met Your Mother season 6 finale in two weeks. I expected as much. But I might be aggravated if Zoey isn’t passed by then. I’m prepared to wait it out, but solely with characters I really enjoy.
