Any MLM company can obtain a giant flood of cashflow when starting up just on the merit of being “the next best thing,” but if any network marketing company is to have any real staying power, and really make the reps’ lives a whole lot more bearable, is to essentially have a product line that’s something that can stand on it’s own without any hype. You want to advertise a product that people want to purchase, at a cost people would be eager to throw money down for, even without a home business attached to it.
If you’re reading this article, there’s a good chance you’re investigating doTerra for one of two reasons:
1. You’re interested in mainly purchasing the product and you want to see how it compares next to the competition, and/or…
2. You’re looking to become a doTerra distributor and want to see if this is a product you can put your name behind.
Either way, you’ve come to the right place.
WHAT IT IS
DoTerra’s core product is a lineup of therapeutic grade essential oils, the highest grade available for essential oils.
WHAT IT DOES
These oils have a considerable number of different uses, from relaxation with aromatherapy, they can help soothe skin when you mix it with bath water, and there have even been reports where it has helped take pain away where traditional, and often more costly, treatment has failed.
COMPETITOR PRODUCT COMPARISON
There are lots of competitors in the essential oil market that have oils that claim to be therapeutic grade. So, even if doTerra indeed does market a superior product, they have a decent amount of noise to contend with.
WHAT ARE THE PRICES VS. COMPETITORS’ PRICES
For the 15ml bottles, depending on the oil, they can go from affordable ($15) to the pricey ($100) and everything in the middle. In product comparisons, doTerra’s oils can sometimes cost around 2-3x that of the competition. That being said, doTerra does have incentive programs in place to provide some significant discounts. In some cases the discount is significant. doTerra, like many MLM products ahead of it, say that the increased price is due to the improved quality, concentration, and purity of their product. I’m not saying this is not true; I have actually heard impressive reviews from those who have used doTerra oils. However, when you add a compensation plan into the mix, the price of the product does tend to get kicked up a couple notches.
FINAL THOUGHTS
There are 3 major pieces that a MLM company needs to have in order for its distributors can stand a fighting chance in the exceedingly competitive playing field of MLM, together with the competing domain that company’s product is in:
1. A firm reputation that is built on giving value as opposed to propaganda.
2. A product that has bona fide value outside of a home based business opportunity.
3. A system of marketing that is able to give you an flood of eager leads pounding on your door & calling you directly, cash in hand, prepared to connect with your team.
From what I’ve seen of doTerra, though it’s only a baby in the grand scheme of things, this company nailed the first two requirements. It has fixed whatever problems customers had swiftly, the product presentations are focused much more with educating the customer as opposed to hyping it to the point of total annoyance, and doTerra’s product line is actually something customers would and do buy all day, every day without a comp plan attached to it. On the other hand, a crucial piece it’s missing is a way to successfully attract leads to you and your business. It doesn’t matter how phenomenal a product or business is, the cold hard facts are that 97% of reps working their heart out in this business will most definitely fail building a doTerra business if they fail to see this important part. If you can do that, and partner with an experienced leader to direct you through this critical process, there is no telling how far you can go in your doTerra business.
