All right, So I totally made that up, OK? There is nothing really called Jaggernauts inside the After Effects space.I made up this term to refer to an issue some of my customers face when they try to render a -after effect projects.
My client Dave has what I would call a love hate relationship with Adobe After effects CS4. He loves what this application can do for him when he uses one of our AE Templates in his projects.But hates it when After effects forces him out of his ‘novice’ comfort zone.
“The animated text breaks apart an for a second or so I get these jagged black lines running through the text in my final video!”
said Dave and we sat down (virtually of course,online) and went through the diagnostic steps.
1. OK so first things first - What codec are we using for rendering our final video - the thing to remember here is that , a highly compressed lossy format can lead to jaggies and other visual glitches in the final output.
In this case Dave was going with a loss less format -the final output video to be compressed later through a 3rd party compressing software. smart Move!This is a great work-flow for anyone who needs to host his after effects typography templates video online .
2. Motion blur - is motion blur enabled? not activating the motion blur switches especially for high contrast elements like -text ,can lead to bad case of jaggies in their final rendered video.
motion blur was enabled.
Finally, The solution was to re-render the project with a fast blur filter on the text layers .That solved the problem.
“the glitches had vanished and we had a clean render” -Dave informed me.
So the next time you are using a pro Adobe After Effects Template (-say, maybe an intro video for your YouTube channel) and you find yourself up against the dreaded jaggernauts , use these simple steps to slay the beast and render in peace.
