The computer is used for quite a number of purposes, but more valuable to kids and adults alike is the aspect of computer gaming. This is becoming a favorite and regular past time for many in the world, but has it been like this?
When the computer first came up, it was quite a large unit and was found in quite a few places, like in the offices of large corporations or universities. At the time also, the games were not the main focus of any particular group of persons and hence it was not making any gains, the first games were quite simple in design, and could consist of such things as shooting at certain targets. At that time, the games were not widely used by the public as the mainframe computers available at the time were not found in homes as the PC is today and hence they did not take off as much.
Not much improvement was made between the early fifties and the seventies as not much awareness was raised amongst the public about the games. One game that however sparked some early controversy was the ‘Death Race’, which entailed one running over what looked like human beings, and this was not taken up well by the public. In the eighties and nineties, color games came up, and these were more commonly used in arcades for the coin games. It is during the eighties that the computer game industry is said to have begun rising in popularity with the coming up of many companies that begun producing games for the home computer, which had been previously on a limited nature.
During the nineties, a lot of improvements were made, such as the cost of the computer processors falling, and three dimensional graphics coming up. During this period, the distributors of the game begun the practice of first availing demos for free, and after gaining one’s interest, you would be required to buy the full version of the game. The demos were usually only playable up to a certain level, and if the game was quite interesting to you, you would just have to satisfy your urge to buy the rest of the game. At his point the arcades begun to fade away as the games begun to become more and more portable, and the computer gaming machines became more appropriate to have in the home. The graphics and devices for gaming have become much more advanced, and they now seem more realistic.
